Are supplements just expensive pee? Part 1.

It’s a fair concern as supplements can seem like quite an investment, but you want to have confidence that you’re not flushing your money down the toilet right (pun intended ). 😝⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The key is to make sure that the nutrients in your supplements are ACTUALLY being absorbed into your body. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Therefore there’s a few considerations. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Not all supplements are created equal. Bioavailability, quality, dosage, nutrient form all determine if a supplement will actually make the difference it claims to. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

1️⃣ Ingredient form and bioavailability ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The same nutrient can come in a range of different forms and some of those are more absorbable than others. For example, magnesium. So many different forms and they all work in different ways in the body. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

2️⃣ Dosage ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

1.How much of the nutrient will actually enter circulation and what amount does your body needs to replenish stores or produce a therapeutic effects? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

3️⃣ Quality ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I cannot reiterate this enough especially for people with allergies, intolerances or consider themselves ‘sensitive’. Many supplements off the shelf are packed with artificial excipients and fillers which in Australia currently do not need to be identified. Pick quality or practitioner only products that you know are only going to benefit your body.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This is why it’s so important to work with a practitioner to customise and ensure that the bioavailability, quality and dosage is right for you and your needs! That’s when supplements can really take your health to the next level 💪🏼 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
